Yep, DPI does not make a better mouse. I currently have mine set on 4000 but im considering lowering to 2000 or something.

The only factor you should be concentrating on is comfort.
You dont want to start getting arthritis after playing an hour of quake.

I've been using a Razer Death Adder for about a year now and is an awesome mouse.
In the past I used a mx500 for 2 years, went from that to switching between the mx518 and microsoft 1.1a optical mouse for about 4 years.

And the Death Adder is for me way more comfortable good palm support, and its very light like the 1.1a. I feel I have way more control over the mouse, the mx shape sortof prevented me sometimes from making those really quick movements, and the 1.1a wasnt as comfortable for playing long sessions of quake, my pinky would tweak out xD

And like everyone else has said DPI really doesnt help at all. I actually prefer the feeling of this mouse set at 800 dpi, and used to play with the mx set to 800 aswell.

I think the only important things with choosing a mouse is how comfortable it is in your hand, feel one before you buy it. Second thing is the usb polling rate, the higher the better in turn reducing input lag.

Haha Yeah, I gave adrenalin one of my 3.0's, I used that mouse for 4 years almost, it was a really cool mouse. I am using the deathadder atm, and I think its the best mouse I've ever used. It's like an upgrade of the 3.0.

Some people get bad experiences with it but if you look at my "Gear up bitches!" post you'll see that I worship the mouse.

I cant speak for everyone but if I had to choose, I'd buy 20 deathadders to last me a lifetime.

Seems you only go for a nice body, and nothing under the hood like a Mazda Astina. Gobz try some Logitechs or Microsoft mice out. You only need 400DPI IMO. Any mouse that says "portable" or "laptop" is usually the smaller species...
Razers are kewl, but I have had problems with drivers.
No use buying a mouse off the net, go touch them all on their studio!

I have a steelseries heavy gaming mousepad. I like it cause its very comfortable with 7mm thick wetsuit rubber, and is just the right size. R 361.

As for my mouse I use the Microsoft SideWinder and its very good except for those 2 large knobs on the side. I keep on accidentally pressing the top knob which is bound to shotgun, so I should just bind the knob to rocket launcher/forward/attack/taunt then my setup will be perfect.
