I will resolve the issue of licensing when I get there.

With regards to the progress of install a 100mb fibre optic cable. I have received 15 signed contracts at R400 for 24 months and require another 10 signed contracts to then commit with the ISP to get the line into my building.

Once the line is installed and I have the server up and running in terms of hardware and software then I will contact ID about hosting.

I'm not sure about turnaround time though, its taken 6 weeks to get 15 signatures and it takes up to 3 months to install the line.

Have you guys tried asking IS if its possible for them to host another QL server in their Cape Town datacentre ?

Assuming the licencing issue can be dealt with, have you tried gamezone ? I dealt with them a few years ago and they had no problems hosting a game server for us, either in CT or JHB (they did both at the end of the day).

I have spoken to IS, they are looking into it.
I dont think ID will allow for any other provider to host quakelive servers in SA.
They have an agreement with IS only.

from my side, the fibre optic cable is set to be up and running the 1st September, they are now busy with the installation.

If I can't run a Quakelive server I could easily run a OSP server or similiar.

by the way I can't see why ID would be protective of a Quakelive license, there is very little commercial interest from doing so.

if the main source of income is subs and advertising, they would want to host another server so that more people can enjoy low latencies and thereby would be more willing to play and so on.

Finally have the fibre in my flat, as soon as the teething issues have been sorted out I will be trying to get a server running.

that was an initial test I did as soon as the cable went live

after some tweaking I managed to achieve this speed

once the rollout is complete and I've sorted out customers I will focus on the server

for those who were under the impression I was doing nothing about my ping, this process took me four years to complete and is valued at over R1m
